The Sound It Carries

This project was my first studio project while being in the design program. Everything was new to me, from the programs on my computer to the tools in the wood shop to the way I was thinking. But because of that, or in spite of it, I went for it completely. I tried all of the tools; I pushed my ideas of what was possible.

Ultimately I called this project “The Sound It Carries”, because I got tired of the sound, and I was reflecting on my process and the heavy and loud choices I made to get to the final presentation.

Below is the process I went through to achieve this project, or as much as I recorded, because that too, was a new concept to me.

Tools:

Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Premier, Rhino 3D, Laser Cutter, Jigsaw, Spindle Sander, Drill Press, Metal Cutting Bandsaw,
Staple Gun

There were four categories we (students) were initially assigned to:
Sight+, Sight-, Sound+, Sound-

I was assigned to Sound+, which prompted my ideation phase ultimately landing on a wearable hoop-dress with wind chimes.

In order to create this piece, I went to the wood shop and got recommendations for material, primarily based on budget.
