WORK

TASTE Studio is a sportswear design studio based in Inverigo, Italy that I help on a project basis.

As a design consultant for the studio, I assist the lead designer with a range of tasks from completing drawings for new products to compiling background research and inspiration.

Under the mentorship of the designers at this studio I have learned about the product development process, and the sportswear industry as a whole.

One area that sticks out to me is the research process, which is everywhere and takes the form of collecting precedence from garments I see in the world.

Modified Environments is an experimental physical design project, merging research and physical making. Born out of a fascination with the water cycle, and researching how cloud seeding is used in Utah to manipulate the natural environment, I questioned how clothing is used as physical modification. Two jackets were created, both tapping into nature’s water cycle, and a human’s temperature regulation. This physical exploration played with material, weight, and comfort, to confront ideas about clothing and our immediate environment. Thoroughly researched, physically constructed, and delightfully inconclusive, Modified Environments is a senior thesis that encapsulates my experience in design school.

Digital Assemblies- Fall 2023

Wooden Puffy is the result of a multi-step process that utilizes technology to create this unique piece. Tasked with making a cube with texture on all sides, the process started by utilizing artificial intelligence image generation. Then, I used 3D modeling software to create a rendition of the cube in software that was readable to a CNC router, where each of the sides was printed. Finally, I used physical assembly skills to construct the six separate sides into a cube.

Keeper Purse is a purse for every day and every occasion. This handbag is the perfect size for everyday essentials, and its sleek profile hugs the contours of the body, fitting nicely under your arm. With a timeless look and aesthetic, you’ll want to keep this bag forever. With a unique shape and construction, this bag will keep all of your possessions safe.

Created for a Soft Goods elective course, this project brought a bag from research and ideation, through prototyping and material exploration to building a tech pack.

Medium Library is a physical project designed to be an installation in a local park in Salt Lake City, Utah. Expanding on the concept of a “Free Little Library”, Medium Library is a community resource encouraging people to take, leave, and share with their neighbors. Addressing a gap in resources like books, toys, and health products available to anyone, Medium Library is situated in a highly trafficked park with fun bright colors to attract people to the structure. With shelves of varying sizes and space on every side for flyers and community information.

This was a collaborative studio project, designed and built with Nikki Bennett, in tandem with a class collaboration with the International Rescue Committee.

Pure Play is a project that seeks to answer how children will survive growing up in the Salt Lake Valley of Utah. More specifically, it is a pogo stick designed to filter air in each bounce— an attempt to clean the air while it’s in use, and to educate kids on the reality of their environment. The reality is indoor recess some days because of poor air quality, and a higher likelihood for respiratory disorders like asthma. Pure Play takes concepts from toy design and building design and integrates research to produce a toy that is fun to play with, and facilitates learning.

Internship- Summer 2022

Neon Rodeo is a creative conference celebrating art, music, technology, and house music in Salt Lake City, Utah. In 2022, the conference was focused on techno and house music and culminated in a three-day event that felt like a music festival.

Being part of a team that brought this to life was a valuable experience and insight into the professionally creative community in the Salt Lake area. Assisting in everything from social media marketing and radio production to ticketing and installation, I put my design education to work by bringing this event to life.

Sage Plant System is a design research project that examines Salvia Officinalis (Common Sage) as a natural system. This process emphasized producing various artifacts of documentation through research, such as sage paper, postcards, and finally a fabric piece. While many aspects of the natural system were interesting and documented, the final artifact served as a sensory experience to feel and view the trichomes on the surface of a sage leaf from an enlarged perspective.

The Sound It Carries is a wearable project that creates sound as it is worn. Made from numerous wind chimes, this abstracted hoop skirt is a physical exploration of sound and body. Under other circumstances, the sound of wind chimes is generally pleasant. But when they weigh upwards of 20 pounds and make noise every time the wearer turns or steps, they create a boisterous cacophony of chimes.

This project was an ambitious physical construction based on the concept of a “mask” that creates sound. The next phase of the project was creating a case for the project, challenging the assembly and reassembly. As my first project in the design program, I went all in for woodworking, laser cutting, metal working, and made a loud impression.

Club Ski Team

Team Apparel 2022, 2023

The University of Utah Club Ski Team is a student-run sports team that competes with other ski teams. Part of a cohesive group is to show up wearing matching uniforms. The graphics I created for two different years are in conversation with each other and reference the local mountains, and the sport of skiing. Beyond creating graphics, the design process included sourcing blanks and contacting printers to make the designs reality.
